growing and growing
Time for another Avery update... He is still doing very well and making progress day by day. Although, can a hospital recovery ever be quick enough? He is now up to 9 pounds. He developed an infection as a result of the central line, and the hospital staff are working out the antibiotic routine now. The doctors say he should make a full recovery from the infection once the antibiotics are complete.
The day to come home is getting nearer, too. Once he has started receiving a larger volume (I can't remember the exact amount) of food orally versus the feeding tube, he'll be ready to take the big trip home. I know Kelli and Danny are both very anxious for Avery to be sprung from the hospital. With the help of the doctors and the continued determined will of Avery, I hope and pray his going home pictures will be posted soon! Click here for the latest pictures.

prune posse
Tim celebrated his 40th birthday on August 9th. We wanted to make sure he knew we didn't forget it so we decorated his cubicle the last day he was gone on vacation.
Seriously, I hope Tim had a wonderful birthday and has at least 40 (or 60) more! Click here for the pictures.

avery danann mccoy
At 11:58 on July 28th, Avery Danann McCoy joined the family. Danny and Kelli's little boy decided to make an entrance that none of us would forget. Soon after he was delivered via c-section, the doctors determined Avery had a perforated bowel and would soon need surgery to repair the tear.
At barely 31 hours old, Avery underwent surgery to repair any perforations. In answer to everyone's prayers, 3 hours later the surgeon informed us they only found one small tear in the lower intestine. The hole was small enough they were able to remove the damaged section and reconnect the bowel without any complications.
As of the last report this afternoon, Avery is showing everyone what a tough little boy he is. Right on schedule, he came off of the ventilator today allowing Kelli to hold him for the first time! He is doing well and headed down the road to recovery.
I know Danny and Kelli would want me to extend a big "Thank You" to everyone for their thoughts and prayers during this most difficult of times. And, no one can thank the staff at either Harris Methodist HEB - Siratt Women's Center or Cook Children's Hospital enough. The staff, nurses, and doctors at these facilities have been kind, gracious, and helpful -- making this difficult and emotional time a little more bearable.
Avery still has a long road in front of him, but he has shown the tenacity needed to fight his way through. I've posted a few pictures here that were taken after his surgery. Danny and I were both amazed at how good he looked considering he'd just come through a surgery. The quality of the pictures is not very good because they were taken on a cellphone camera. Hopefully I'll have better pictures with my true digital camera soon.
